Project Description:

The existing bridge carrying U.S. Hwy. 62 over Pond River had deteriorated to the point of needing complete replacement.  A portion of U.S. Hwy. 62 was relocated to improve approaches and to allow traffic to use the existing bridge while the new bridge was being constructed.  A three span structure was selected to satisfy drainage requirements.  A center span of 31 meters was needed to keep the piers out of the river bed.  End spans are  20 meters each giving an overall length of 72 meters.  The bridge is straight and skewed 20 degrees left.  Superstructure framing consists of 5 lines of Type 4 PCI beams with a composite concrete deck.  The overall width of the deck is 13 meters.  The substructure is made up with Integral End Bents on steel piling and one pier is on piling and the other is founded on rock.  Plans were completed in 1997, and construction completed in 1999..  Plans are prepared in metric units and the estimated cost of the bridge is $500,000.00.
