Description: The Cloverport Bypass is a new route around Cloverport,
Kentucky that eliminated bottleneck conditions. Clover Creek is near the Ohio River and serves as a reservoir
for water backed up by the Cannelton Dam.
The bypass crosses Clover Creek at a skew of 26 degrees. The distance from edge of water to edge of
water at pool stage is approximately 280 feet. A 475 foot long bridge
was selected to satisfy drainage
requirements. A four span bridge with spans of 117.5',
120', 120', 117.5' was used. The superstructure consisted of Type 4 modified prestressed concrete
I-beams and a composite concrete
deck. The I-beams are 66 inches deep. The substructure
consisted of three open column piers
and pile bent abutments. All substructure units are supported on piles. Two
of the piers are located in the water and require
cofferdams and concrete tremie seals.
Plans were completed in 1990 and construction is presently underway
with completion scheduled for 1993.
The cost of the bridge was $2,044,738. The
Consultant was responsible for: 1. Complete
survey work. 2. Drainage Design. 3. Final Construction Plans, Specifications
and Cost Estimates. The
Department was responsible for: 1. All
geotechnical data. |
