(BRIDGE) Type of Improvement: BRIDGE REPLACEMENT WITH ASSOCIATED APPROACH WORK Firm's Structural Proj Engr: DAVID
C. DEPP, P.E. (while employed by American Consulting Engineers, PLC) Project Description: This project represents the
experience of David C. Depp, P.E.,
while employed by American Consulting Engineers. This project, located in Owensboro,
Kentucky, involved widening Carter
Road from 2-lanes with minimal shoulders to 5-lanes with full-width
shoulders, and included the replacement
of the existing bridge over US 60 Bypass, a 4-lane freeway with depressed
median. The new widened bridge was
constructed using staged construction
to maintain traffic on Carter Road.
The new bridge is 81.3 feet
wide and 253.3 feet long,
including 4-spans with lengths of 45.5-82.0-82.0-40.5 feet, and is framed
using Type 4 PPC I-beams with
composite concrete deck. The spans
were arranged to provide a 30 foot clear
zone along the outside shoulders of the US 60 Bypass, and avoid the need
for guardrail. The substructures
consist of integral end bents and multi-column piers, both founded on prestressed concrete friction piles. Construction was completed in 1998 at an estimated cost of $832,000
($40/sf). The
