ENGINEER Project Description: The bridge was 1,300 feet long and located in a curved
alignment. This project consisted of
complete superstructure replacement for three spans and deck replacement for
the other 20 spans. The work also
included repair and rehabilitation of the substructure units and repair and
partial replacement of the existing steel girders. All steel expansion bearings were replaced with elastomeric
bearings. Staged construction was
used with the bridge remaining open to one-lane traffic. The plans were completed in August 1990
and construction was completed in 1992.
This bridge fell in Seismic Performance Category "B". All bridge seat widths were checked for
conformance with Article 4.6 (Minimum Support Lengths) in Seismic Retrofit
Manual. Side retainers were added to
all expansion bearings to satisfy a lateral resistance of 0.2 Dead Load. The
Consultant was responsible for: Phase I 1. Providing
